The Two Diamond-Growing Methods


1. HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature)


This method simulates the natural environment of diamond formation deep inside the earth. Carbon is placed under extremely high pressure (up to 5 GPa) and temperatures (up to 1,500°C) until it crystallizes into a diamond.

Best for:

Larger carat sizes and Type IIa diamonds

Often has a natural diamond seed at the core

2. CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition)


In this method, a thin slice of diamond seed is placed in a vacuum chamber filled with carbon-rich gas. When the gas is activated using microwaves or heat, carbon atoms stick to the seed and grow layer by layer.
